Joke Spaargaren, MD, PhD

Dr. Spaargaren is a clinical microbiologist with over 20 years of experience in the field with special interest in STIs. She has been in charge of several medical microbiological laboratories in The Netherlands and knows how to combine patient care, diagnostics and research with economic insights in the potential to translate unmet clinical needs in health care systems. She studied medicine at the University of Amsterdam and specialized herself in medical microbiology at Leiden University Medical Center. She did her PhD on ‘Multidisciplinary approach to the study of Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) infections. Female urogenital and male anorectal infections’ which she defended in December 2006 at the University of Amsterdam. Additionally she has a master in health-care business administration at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. From 2013 she is involved in CT and subfertility research projects and participates in developing new research lines in TubaScan Ltd.
